Heritage London Foundation Background
Heritage London Foundation (HLF) is a charitable organization that was founded in 1981 with the intention of preserving significant heritage properties. HLF currently provides contemporary uses for two heritage homes in London: the Elsie Perrin Williams Estate and Grosvenor Lodge. The Foundation also works to educate the public and raise awareness about preserving heritage for present and future generations.
Part of this work includes providing opportunities for history students to work within the heritage sector and gain experience in a variety of areas. Summer students are funded through the National Trust for Canada’s Young Canada Works program. With HLF, students work as a historical site interpreter giving tours, answering event related emails, undertaking small research projects, and working events as the building supervisor. In addition, students are also given the opportunity to embark on a full-scale independent research project – limited only by their imagination.
