Importance of Income

For many of the women working at these hosiery factories, their pay cheques were a necessity. Their extra income supplemented their husband’s wage and allowed for larger, more challenging purchases like mortgages and cars or paid for unavoidable costs like daycare. For single women, it allowed them to become independent or get additional education.
